OK2SAY – School Safety

In 2014, the Michigan Attorney General’s office implemented a student safety initiative called OK2SAY. This is a program that ensures every student, parent, teacher, and community member has access to a a safe and confidential way to report any concerns about their safety or the safety of others. OK2SAY operates as an early warning system in our schools to help stop tragedies before they start.

Moose Visits Playground

Students, staff, and faculty received quite a surprise last Monday when a moose was spotted on the playground! The moose was inside the fenced playground area, so DNR officials were called to assist, and the moose left without incident. Teacher Rachel Peacock managed to get a short video, which was posted on our Facebook page and which generated a tremendous amount of traffic there! You can see the video by visiting our Facebook page. The L’Anse Sentinel also reported on the story and featured it on the front page of the paper last week.

Our students are gearing up for our annual Bike-A-Thon! The Bike-A-Thon will be held on Saturday, October 7, at the L’Anse high school track at Volunteer Field. Permission slips and pledge forms were sent home with the students as well as a novena to be prayed every day for the success of our Bike-A-Thon. Two bicycles will be awarded: one for the most money raised and one for the most laps ridden around the track during the event. Thank you to our generous donors and sponsors!

Our annual Authors’ Tea and Art Show was held last Friday, April 28. Student authors read their books to their classmates, staff members, and friends and family; student artwork was on display throughout the school. Cookies, punch, and tea were enjoyed by all! Visit our Facebook page for more pictures of the event.

We Have a New Mission Statement!

Many thanks to our Catholic Identity committee and our school council for their hard work in creating a new mission statement for us to live by: Sacred Heart School integrates faith and reason to develop the whole child into a disciple of Jesus Christ, a great thinker, and a lifelong learner.

This new mission statement communicates more accurately what we are doing here at Sacred Heart School–bringing our students to friendship with Jesus Christ, who is the source of all goodness, truth, and beauty. Our classical curriculum prepares students to be great thinkers and lifelong learners, people who will ask questions and bring about change in our world. This is the type of education that has produced countless great leaders, inventors, scientists, writers, philosophers, theologians, physicians, lawyers, artists, and musicians over the centuries.
